Theories of Hierarchies
Abstract
We will survey very briefly the questions that arise when studying the hierarchies in organizations: why do they exist? what constraints do they impose on the functioning of organizations? We will then discuss briefly two recent contributions, one dealing with the benefits of hierarchies in a team theoretical model of allocation of tasks, one with incentives in hierarchies.
