This workshop deals with institutional performance (effectiveness and efficiency). In particular, it addresses the conceptualization and measurement of institutional/legal transplants and institutional complementarities (e.g. through factor analysis). These two concepts have been widely utilized in comparative institutional analysis to discover the differences in institutional and economic performance among countries. They are for instance helpful to explain the divergent institutional trajectories of post-communist countries with regard to the rule of law, democracy and capitalism.
