This lecture will give an introduction to the rapidly expanding field of culture and economics. I will give some background on this research, talk about the main methodologies used in research, go through some of the research on 1) the effects of culture on economic behavior, institutions and performance, 2) talk about the inertia of culture, 3) what we know about the determinants of cultural change in a country, 4) what we know about the determinants of cultural divergence across countries.
