The evolution of economic regulation in theory and in practice

Abstract

This session will examine how institutional and industrial organisation ‘theory’ has influenced the design of the regulatory systems and regulatory practice. It will also explore the extent to which economic regulatory institutions and policies have converged across industries and jurisdictions over the past four decades. Finally, it will focus on new challenges, and some enduring areas of tension, in economic regulation.
